Cyberpunk 2077 Announcement from CD Projeckt Red is Both Bitter & Sweet

In 2019, I played a lot of games that carried big promises or threatened to push my console’s specs to their limits, and each one disappointed me alongside many others. Anthem, Fallout 76, and even Red Dead Redemption at launch did not live up to promises first made, and I’ve now lost faith in those developers entirely. These were once the developers that spawned masterpieces of the last generation, such as Mass Effect, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Grand Theft Auto V, respectively, and yet failed to invoke the same hype each of those generated before. It is a reality that the quality of games is degrading for the sake satisfying disconnected stockholders and hitting their deadlines at all costs. In the industry, you either adapt, die off, or do what developer CD Projeckt Red has done.

Singlehandedly, CD Projeckt Red won the support and faith of gamers with their previous release The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which without exaggeration is one of the best games of all time. Due to the success of the Witcher series, Cyberpunk is heavily pressured to equally impress, and seems to be breaching those initial expectations easily. Fans of the developers, the original tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020 or the futuristic setting and neon stylings are counting the days until they can become a part of the world they desperately want to dive into. It is therefore with deeply mixed feelings that CD Projeckt Red announced today the title will be delayed and released on September 17th of this year.

The delay will help the team find and patch bugs, add quality of life features, and overall enable the final version to launch as smoothly as possible. Despite the disappointment felt with waiting another few months, it’s a relief that one developer believes in prioritizing quality over a deadline. CD Projeckt Red is committed to creating only the best of content, and truly has their audience in mind. In the meantime, there are going to be several other fantastic games that will be launching that can sate my appetite:

Ori and the Will of the Wisps / February 11th

Animal Crossing: New Horizons & Doom Eternal / March 20th

Personal 5 Royal / March 31st

Final Fantasy 7 Remake / April 10th

The world of Cyberpunk 2077 is unlike anything witnessed before, and until then we have no choice but to bide our time with other amazing games that are coming this year. Even without Cyberpunk 2077, the year 2020 looks undoubtedly incredible for gamers, and it is only getting started.
